A father of Vietnamese origin sees his daughter wanting to interrupt her studies to go to Vietnam, a country he fled as a child because of the war. Opposed to this plan, he seeks his sister’s help to dissuade her. During a family meal he dreads, he is confronted with his memories and his daughter’s enthusiasm. Gradually, he reconciles his French and Vietnamese identities, which he once believed were incompatible.
Aude Ha Leplège has been living in Belgium for eight years. Of Franco-Vietnamese descent, she has always been interested in the question of what life is like in a country for those whose roots lie elsewhere. This is also the subject of her animated short film Saigon sur Marne (2019, produced by Novanima and Zorobabel). Today, she alternates between writing a new animated film, working on projects for production studios, and pursuing her passion for ornithology, which she has had for the past two years.
