The storyline is simple: Michael is an orphan. A chance meeting with a young vampire and his “Living Dead” parents sets him on a course for adventure in a universe where previously dark thoughts become tolerable, even “tamable”. But dimwitted monsters, led by an evil being named The Gibbus, will try to take Michael into much darker universe. His encounter with them will teach Michael that in the term “Living Dead”, the word “living” is far more important than he thought. The Little Vampire is an argument for using fantasy and imagination as a means of confronting childhood fears. The film does eventually address serious questions about death and, in therein, we’ll discover that the haunted house residents aren’t the real threat, but rather allies against true darkness. The skull of the Captain of the Dead isn’t meant to terrorize, but to protect.
